Agartala, 14th January 2026: The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) held a protest march in Sonamura today demanding the arrest of a BJP panchayat member accused of vandalizing a school and issuing death threats to a teacher. The demonstration sparked tension across the area.
SFI leaders alleged that even after 24 hours of the incident, no case has been registered against the accused. They accused Sonamura police of remaining a “silent spectator” and criticized the lack of response from the teaching community, calling it “deeply shameful.”
Anisur Rahman, divisional leader of SFI, said, “Despite issuing death threats to school teachers, the BJP panchayat member has not been arrested. The police have turned into political servants. Teachers are too afraid to file complaints due to fear of transfers.”
Protesters further demanded immediate arrest of the accused and strict measures to ensure the safety of teachers. They warned that the agitation would intensify if authorities failed to act promptly.
