Agartala, 14th January 2026:  Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today said that he would speak to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to further strengthen the case of Anjel Chakma and bring the criminals to justice.

Dr. Saha said this while visiting the residence of late Anjel Chakma at Nandannagar, where he met with the family members.

Later, Dr. Saha said that on December 26, when Anjel Chakma died, he had taken up the matter with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

“He also spoke with me. A detailed discussion was held on the matter. He has assured me that action will be taken and the law will take its own course. Five persons out of six have already been arrested. What I have learned is that a cash reward has also been declared to arrest the remaining criminal, but so far he has not been arrested. Police will arrest him. This is a very unfortunate incident. He was pursuing an MBA and had also secured a placement. When his dead body was brought to Agartala, I was ready to visit his home; however, I later learned that they had gone to their ancestral home at Machmara. When I went to the North District and was planning to visit Machmara, I heard that they would come to Agartala,” said Dr. Saha.

He said that today he visited late Anjel’s home.

“At first, Anjel’s younger brother came under attack. While trying to save him, Anjel died. From our end, we have provided financial help, and from Uttarakhand also assistance was given. His father was posted in Manipur and serving with the BSF, so he wanted to come to Agartala. I have asked them to submit a letter, and I will try to help. We can understand their mental situation as they have lost their son. We also want a proper investigation, and I have been raising this issue with the Uttarakhand Chief Minister, who has assured me. Even then, during my Delhi visit on January 18, I will raise this matter again with the Chief Minister to further strengthen the investigation,” he added.
