Agartala, 19th January 2026 : Administrative services at the Birchandra Manu South Zonal Office are facing severe disruption due to acute staff shortages. Sources confirm that the office currently operates with only seven to eight employees, including fourth-grade staff, leaving development work nearly paralyzed.
Despite adequate manpower at the Khumulwng headquarters, many staff members reportedly remain stationed there under the influence of political leaders and ministers, rather than being deployed to zonal offices. As a result, the Birchandra Manu office is functioning without engineers or Zonal Development Officers (ZDOs). Even the few staff present is alleged to arriving late, further hampering operations.
The shortage has led to stalled development projects and several office rooms being locked. Observers blame the Tipra Motha-led ADC administration for its lack of vision, which has left the zonal office in disarray. Critics accuse leaders at Khumulwng and the ADC of being “in deep slumber,” ignoring the worsening situation.
Local tribal residents, who once hoped for progress under the promise of a “Greater Tipraland,” now allege they are being misled and deprived of development. Poor and marginalized communities complain that while the slogan of Greater Tipraland is amplified, basic services and benefits are being diverted by MDCs and executive members to their own constituencies.
This growing discontent among tribal communities has sparked questions about whether the Tipra Motha party was brought to power to deliver governance or to weaken administrative structures. With ADC elections approaching, all eyes are on Maharaja Pradyot Kishore Debbarma and the ADC administration to see what corrective measures, if any, will be taken to restore confidence and address the crisis.
