Agartala, 24th January 2026: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today said that it is never possible to create a foundation for development without engineers, as they are an integral and important part of the government.
He said that engineers are one of the key areas on which the government depends.
Dr. Saha said while inaugurating the 56th Annual General Conference of the State Engineers Association of Tripura, organized at Nazrul Kalakshetra in Agartala today.
While addressing the conference, Dr. Saha said that the Tripura government has great expectations from engineers and that the foundation of development in all sectors is built on them.
“It is never possible to create this foundation without you. There needs to be discussion among you about where there were shortcomings last year. There should also be discussion about ourselves. Engineering is needed everywhere now. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is repeatedly emphasizing skill development. Skill development is necessary for everyone, whether a doctor or an engineer. You need to learn new things every day and think innovatively,” he said.
During his address, the Chief Minister told the young engineers present at the conference that there is no end to learning and knowledge.
“Age is not an issue in this regard. Remember that good work is recognized everywhere. Out of our budget of over Rs 32,000 crore, Rs 7,000 crore has been allocated for infrastructure development alone, as the Prime Minister has given special importance to this sector. Through infrastructure development, socio-economic development will also take place. If our foundation is strong, we can take on any challenge. There is no lack of potential among us, but we have to come out of the rut,” he said.
The Chief Minister also said that the organization should be work-oriented and that today’s conference should include discussions on their own issues.
“Through this, you will become aware of your own mistakes as well as your strengths and weaknesses. We have now moved from the digital era to Artificial Intelligence (AI). Engineering can now be done even from home. Engineers are an integral and important part of the government, and their responsibilities must be handled well. Among all government departments, engineers are the most relied upon. Engineers have superpowers — from smartphones to laptops and tablets, everything is made by their hands,” Dr. Saha said.
Dr. Saha further stated that the way engineers solve problems cannot be matched by any other profession.
“So, I would say that we must work in such a direction that we can feel even more proud of the engineers of our state in the future. Women engineers should also work in the field when necessary. In this regard, higher authorities must take appropriate measures and utilize them properly,” he added.
Rajya Sabha Member Rajib Bhattacharya, Public Works Department Secretary Kiran Gitte, Chief Engineer Rajib Majumdar, State Engineers Association President Surya Kumar Debbarma, Secretary Satyabrata Das, and other leaders of the organization were present as distinguished guests at the conference.
