Agartala, 31st January 2026: A reckless car driver created chaos today morning in the Kathaltali–Maheshkhola industrial area, damaging multiple vehicles and injuring several people, including a school student, before fleeing the scene.

According to local sources, the car, bearing registration number TR-01-0678, was speeding from the Maheshkhola side through the industrial zone when the incident occurred. The driver allegedly rammed into several auto-rickshaws and other vehicles and also hit a police barricade (picket).

While attempting to escape, the car crashed into a police vehicle stationed in front of Montfort School, where an event was underway. At the time, police personnel, school guardians, and local residents were present in the area. The vehicle reportedly spun out of control on the road, colliding with more vehicles and hitting a police officer and a school student, leaving several people injured.

Local residents and police patrol units surrounded the car and attempted to stop it. As locals began damaging the vehicle, the driver moved the car to the roadside, abandoned it, and fled on foot.

Residents suspect that the driver may have been carrying illegal items, which could explain the reckless attempt to escape. Locals also alleged that illegal activities frequently take place along this route, with smugglers operating regularly by allegedly managing local police stations, including Amtali and Srinagar police stations.

Despite the incident occurring on Friday morning, no arrests had been made till the evening. Officials from Amtali Police Station reportedly declined to comment on the matter. Police have seized the abandoned vehicle and stated that an investigation is underway to identify and arrest the absconding driver.
