Agartala, 1st February 2026: Tripura Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman has voiced strong criticism of the Union Budget for 2026-27, calling it disappointing for ordinary citizens and particularly for marginalized communities. He questioned the transparency of the budget, saying it should clearly outline sector-wise allocations and actual fund utilization, information that he claims is rarely available to the public.
Barman highlighted that crucial sectors such as health, education, social welfare, and scholarships for ST, SC, and OBC communities saw significant reductions in funding. He also pointed out that development initiatives for the North East region were neglected. According to him, the budget fails to address employment generation, farmer support, or the concerns of the poor.
“The low revenue receipts indicate that the economy is under stress,” he added, noting that the stock market reacted negatively after the budget announcement. Barman expressed concern that this year’s budget does not reflect the needs of the common people and could have long-term implications for economic stability.
