MP Rajib Bhattacharjee spotlights road woes in Tripura at Rajya Sabha

Agartala, 3rd February 2026:   Tripura’s road infrastructure took center stage in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, as BJP state president and Member of Parliament Rajib Bhattacharjee voiced serious concerns over the deteriorating condition of several national highways.

Bhattacharjee drew attention to stretches of NH-8 (Mungiakami–Ambassa), NH-108B, NH-208B, and NH-208A, where large potholes have disrupted daily life. He warned that the poor road conditions are hampering commuters, farmers transporting produce, ambulance services, and even pedestrians. “This has created great difficulty in communication and mobility across the state,” he said.

The BJP leader acknowledged the strides made in the Northeast under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership since 2014, noting that Tripura has expanded from a single national highway to eight, with six completed and two still under construction. However, he stressed that maintenance has not kept pace with expansion.

Calling for urgent intervention, Bhattacharjee urged the ministry to act under the PM Gati Shakti initiative. He demanded a comprehensive survey of the affected roads and an increase in funds to accelerate repair and upkeep.

His remarks highlight the paradox of Tripura’s road network—rapid growth under central schemes, yet persistent challenges in safety and maintenance. The issue is expected to remain high on the agenda for both state and central authorities in the months ahead.
