Agartala, 4th February 2026 :  The Santirbazar Municipal Council has launched a strict drive to keep the town clean and free from traffic congestion. This evening, officials carried out a special awareness campaign near the New Bridge area, targeting unauthorized shops and unhygienic meat stalls set up along the National Highway.

For a long time, meat shops had been operating illegally on both sides of the highway near the New Bridge, causing environmental pollution and traffic jams that inconvenienced daily commuters.

The operation was led by Santirbazar Municipal Council Vice-Chairman Satyabrata Saha, Deputy CEO Pabitra Kumar Das, Councillor Nepal Chandra Das, along with other officials.

Meat sellers were warned and instructed to shift their business to the designated meat market. Vendors in vending zones were also asked to maintain cleanliness in their allotted spaces.

Vice-Chairman Satyabrata Saha stated that plans are underway to create additional vending zones in the future to beautify the town and provide proper facilities for roadside vendors.

Local residents welcomed the initiative, praising the municipality’s efforts. Authorities confirmed that similar drives will continue in the coming days to ensure Santirbazar remains clean and organized.
