Agartala, 9th February 2026 : Tensions escalated on Monday morning when a joint team of the Assam Rifles and Border Security Force (BSF) conducted an anti-ganja operation in the North Kalamchoura–Barmura area.
According to reports, local ganja cultivators surrounded the forces and launched a violent attack using sharp weapons, bricks, and stones. Four TSR personnel were injured in the assault and police constable Suman Majumder sustained a head injury.
In an attempt to control the situation, the joint forces fired approximately 40 warning shots into the air. Despite these measures, the cultivators continued their aggressive advance, forcing the security personnel to retreat. The injured were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Sources indicated that this period coincides with the collection of dried ganja. It is alleged that the cultivators attacked the forces to prevent the seizure of their harvest.
Local residents have expressed that Monday’s anti-ganja operation was unsuccessful due to the strong resistance encountered by the authorities on the ground.
