Agartala, 10th  February 2026 :   Residents of Athukuthang under Mandai block continue to struggle with a severe drinking water crisis. For years, the community has relied solely on stream water to survive, as no proper supply system has been established.

Recently, a submersible pump was installed in the area, raising hopes among locals that their long-standing problem might finally be resolved. However, despite the pump being in place, no water has been supplied. Officials reportedly failed to locate an underground water layer at the site, leaving the installation ineffective. This has sparked questions among residents about why the pump and pipeline were set up without proper assessment.

Frustrated villagers say they have repeatedly informed the block authorities and local MLA Swapna Debbarma, but no action has been taken. Speaking to the media, local resident Buddhi Charan Rupini detailed the situation and appealed to the concerned department to urgently arrange safe drinking water for the community.
