Agartala, 12th February 2026:   The statewide strike called in support of workers’ rights has been declared a complete success, according to the state office of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU).

Addressing a press conference today, CITU State Secretary Shankar Prasad Dutta highlighted the widespread impact of the strike across various sectors.

The transport sector saw a significant disruption, with nearly 75 to 80 percent of vehicles off the roads. The public, he noted, has shown strong support for the strike. At Agartala railway station, where normally 2,000–2,500 passengers gather each morning, only around a hundred passengers were present on the day of the strike. In some areas, protesters sat on railway tracks to emphasize their demands.

Over 70 percent of BSNL employees participated in the strike, while almost all public sector banks supported the action, except for a few. Exams were excluded from the strike to avoid inconveniencing students; in schools where exams were ongoing, students attended, but attendance elsewhere was sparse.

Most shops across the state remained closed, with around 99 percent of rural shops shutting down in solidarity. In Agartala city, a few shops were reportedly forced open around noon under pressure from the ruling party. Additionally, marches and demonstrations in support of the strike were organized at 41 locations across the state.

The strike demonstrates the strong unity among workers and the public in raising their voices for labor rights.
