Agartala, 13th February 2026: The Belonia District and Sessions Court has sentenced Satya Joy Tripura to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹10,000 for the murder of his mother-in-law. The verdict was delivered yesterday by Judge Gobinda Das.
According to case details, the incident took place on the night of September 29, 2022, at Ramsundar Para under Baikhora police station. The accused, Satya Joy Tripura (24), who was residing at his in-laws’ house, allegedly strangled his mother-in-law, Unati Reang, to death while she was asleep. Reports state that he was intoxicated at the time.
Following the crime, a case was registered at Baikhora Women’s Police Station under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. Investigating Officer Sub-Inspector Ruma Noatia filed a chargesheet against the accused, including statements from 14 witnesses.
After examining 13 witnesses during trial, the court found Satya Joy Tripura guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment along with a monetary penalty. The prosecution was conducted by Public Prosecutor Subrata Chakraborty.
