Agartala, 16th February 2026: The Government of Tripura has removed Shri Gautam Sarkar from the post of President, West Tripura District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, with immediate effect, following findings of misbehaviour and abuse of position.
According to an official order issued by the Directorate of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, the action was taken after an inquiry conducted by the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission under Rule 9 of the Consumer Protection (Qualification for Appointment, Method of Recruitment, Procedure of Appointment, Term of Office, Resignation and Removal of the President and Members of the State Commission and District Commission) Rules, 2020.
The inquiry was initiated on the basis of written complaints submitted by advocates and employees of the West Tripura District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, alleging specific instances of misconduct against Sarkar.
Following a preliminary scrutiny by the Government of Tripura, the State Commission conducted a detailed inquiry and subsequently submitted its report to the State Government. In its findings, the Commission concluded that the charges levelled against Sarkar were found to be true.
A copy of the inquiry report was furnished to Sarkar, and he was given a reasonable opportunity to submit his written representation in his defence, in accordance with the provisions of the Rules.
After examining the inquiry report, Sarkar’s written representation, and all related records, the Government concluded that the charges of misbehaviour and abuse of position stood substantiated.
Exercising its powers under Rule 8 of the 2020 Rules, the Government has ordered his removal from office with immediate effect.
The order was issued by Sumit Lodh, Additional Secretary to the Government of Tripura.
