Agartala, 23rd February 2026 : In a remarkable display of medical expertise, the healthcare team at Indira Gandhi Memorial (IGM) Hospital continues to provide advanced treatment for complex cases, helping patients recover fully under specialist supervision.
An 18-year-old girl from Bishalgarh, Manikpur in Sepahijala district was admitted to the hospital on February 3, 2026, with persistent ear problems. She had been experiencing foul-smelling discharge, constant ringing in the ears, and dizziness for the past two years. Under the care of ENT specialists, her condition was carefully evaluated.
Dr. Lakshan Bhattacharya, after reviewing detailed reports, diagnosed her with COM (RT) Youth Cholesteatoma—a condition causing abnormal, destructive skin growth behind the eardrum that can lead to chronic infections and hearing loss. Surgery was deemed the only effective solution to restore proper ear function.
On February 12, 2026, Dr. Bhattacharya performed a successful MRM Youth Ossiculoplasty procedure to repair and reconstruct the ossicular chain in the middle ear. Anesthesiologist Dr. Pradip Zamatia, along with nursing officers Kakli Chakraborty and Chandana Pal, ensured the procedure was safe and efficient.
Following several days of post-operative care under the hospital’s specialist team, the patient fully recovered and was discharged on February 17, 2026.
