Agartala, 24th February 2026: A 75-year-old woman identified as Raj Laxmi Bardhan died at GB Pant Hospital here this morning following a violent assault at her residence near Banikya Chowmuhani.
According to police, preliminary investigation indicates that miscreants broke into her home with the intention of committing robbery. The victim lived with her son, Uttam Bardhan, who had left for his shop yesterday around 9 am.
When he returned at approximately 4 pm, he found his mother lying at the entrance of their house with her hands and legs bound. She had sustained severe head injuries. The victim was rushed to GB Pant Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries the next morning.
Police confirmed that two bangles and a pair of earrings belonging to the deceased were missing. A case has been registered at Bodhjungnagar Police Station.
“Forensic experts, dog squad, and other wings of the FSL department have been deployed. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest the culprits,” a police official stated.
