Elderly widow appeals to Chief Minister for pension support

Agartala, 24th February 2026:  An 82-year-old widow from Dukhirampara in Ward No. 4 of Chikonchhara ADC Village has appealed directly to the Chief Minister for elderly pension assistance. Nehera Begum, who lost her husband many years ago, has been living in extreme hardship without any financial aid.

Local sources said that despite repeated submissions of required documents, reportedly six to seven times, her application for pension has not been processed. While several villagers have already received widow and old-age pensions, Begum remains excluded.

She alleged that the village committee has been assuring her for years but has taken no concrete steps. “At this stage of life, I am struggling every day,” Begum told reporters this afternoon. With the help of a local youth, she invited a journalist to her home and conveyed her plea to the Chief Minister through the media, urging immediate action.

Residents pointed out that earlier reports had led to pension approvals for three disabled persons and six elderly villagers. Hearing this, Begum expressed hope that her case, once highlighted, would also draw the administration’s attention.
