Agartala, 24th February 2026:  Madhupur police rescued five cattle from dense forest near Konabon Brick Kiln Chowmuhani late last night, foiling an alleged attempt to smuggle them into Bangladesh.

OC Ujjal Choudhury said, police acted on a tip-off around 3 am and found the animals tied up deep inside the forest. The cattle were reportedly being prepared for cross-border trafficking.

OC Choudhury, accompanied by Second Officer Uttam Pal and a large police team, raided the site and successfully recovered the animals. However, the traffickers managed to escape before police arrived. The rescued cattle were later brought to Madhupur police station.

Authorities confirmed that the animals will be produced before the Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Court. Depending on further instructions, they may be handed over to Debipur Gosala Ashram for safe custody.

Police sources revealed that cattle smuggling through the Konaban area has been a recurring issue, with traffickers often bypassing both Madhupur police and Border Security Force (BSF) patrols. This latest operation marks a significant success in curbing the illegal trade.
