Agartala, 28th February 2026:   Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumdar has urged traders who are illegally occupying government land in the city to voluntarily vacate the encroached spaces, warning that no unlawful occupation will be tolerated.

During an inspection visit to the Jackson Gate area on Saturday, the Mayor stated that several business owners have been running shops for a long time by encroaching on government property. He said that prior notices had already been issued to the concerned shopkeepers, directing them to clear the land within a stipulated time frame. However, many failed to comply with the instructions.

As a result, the Municipal Corporation has launched an eviction drive to reclaim the encroached land. Shops that have not yet been removed are currently being demolished as part of the ongoing operation.

Mayor Majumdar further emphasized that such drives will continue throughout the year to maintain urban discipline and ensure smooth traffic movement in the city. He also cautioned street vendors that any shops placed on roads after 11 PM will be removed.

At the same time, the Municipal Corporation has stated that arrangements for rehabilitation have been made for the affected traders, allowing them to continue their businesses at designated locations.
