Agartala, 28th February 2026:   “Mother, I want to live longer.” These words from three-year-old Mariyam Sultana have shaken her helpless parents and community. The child, battling a life-threatening illness for over a year, continues her fight as doctors reach the limits of treatment and the family struggles to cope.

Mariyam’s father, Mridul Mia, a daily-wage mason, has been sustaining his household with great difficulty while seeking medical care for his daughter in hospitals across the state and beyond. With limited means, the family relied on community donations and local leaders’ support to continue treatment.

Today, officials from the Lions Club of Agartala City visited Mariyam’s home near Gokulnagar TSR Camp, beside Ghoria Rice Mill. Club president Pradip Saha, former president Shankar Roy, cashier Subrata Chakraborty, zone chairperson Sajal Kumar Pal, member Subir Debbarma, and board director Shankar Dasgupta, among others, stood by the family. They extended financial assistance and also gifted toys and food to the ailing child.

The club appealed to the public to come forward and support Mariyam’s battle for survival. “This little girl is fighting till her last breath. With collective help, she may recover by God’s grace,” said the members.

Mridul Mia, overwhelmed by the support, urged everyone to extend a helping hand. “I am helpless now. Only with people’s support can my daughter continue her treatment,” he said.

Mariyam’s struggle has become a symbol of resilience, and her plea for life has touched hearts across the community.
