Agartala, 2nd March 2026:  Panic gripped Jayanti Bazaar under Salema police station late Sunday night after miscreants allegedly set fire to the house of Narayan Namashudra, a member of the CPI(M) Salema Area Committee. The attackers also vandalized his rubber plantation, felling nearly 300 mature trees before setting them ablaze.

Local residents reported rushing to the scene after noticing flames in the middle of the night. Despite their efforts to control the fire, a portion of the house and large sections of the plantation suffered extensive damage. The family claims the financial loss is significant.

On Monday morning, leaders of the CPI(M) Dhalai District Committee and Kamalpur Sub-Division Committee visited the site, spoke with the affected family, and strongly condemned the incident. They demanded immediate arrest of those responsible.

In protest, CPI(M) organized a rally in Jayanti Bazaar the same day. Party workers and supporters raised slogans demanding punishment for the culprits while urging the community to maintain peace and order.

Police have launched an investigation, though the identities and motives of the attackers remain unclear. Preliminary suspicion points to political rivalry, with CPI(M) leaders alleging BJP involvement.
