Agartala, 16th  March 2026:   Jitendra Chaudhury, Leader of the Opposition in Tripura, today criticized the state government’s budget, calling it “hollow” and lacking a concrete plan for socio-economic development. Speaking after the budget presentation, Chaudhury said he had only heard the proposals and not seen the underlying facts and figures.

“This is the third budget of the present Finance Minister, Pranajit Singha Roy. Only rising numbers cannot determine whether a budget is pro-people or inclusive. A proper plan is needed, based on the state’s socio-economic conditions, showing how positive outcomes can be achieved,” Chaudhury said.

Chaudhury compared the current budget with the previous two, noting that all three were similar in approach. He highlighted the education sector, pointing out that around 400 primary schools in Tripura operate with only one teacher each. He criticized the absence of a teacher recruitment plan and the challenges faced by existing staff.

On agriculture, Chaudhury said that despite government claims of initiatives, the majority of poor and middle-class farmers are unlikely to benefit due to a lack of detailed planning. He also pointed out that the budget fails to outline strategies for employment generation or stabilization of other critical sectors.

Chaudhury urged the government to focus on practical measures in education, agriculture, and employment to ensure inclusive growth, rather than relying solely on numerical projections and announcements.
