Agartala, 19th March 2026: As the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections approach, the political chessboard in Tripura is witnessing a significant realignment. The Tipra Motha Party, led by royal scion and party founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, appears poised to join hands with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), signaling a strategic consolidation of tribal votes.
Tipra Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma confirmed that Pradyot is in active discussions with top BJP leaders, including BL Santosh and Sambit Patra, suggesting that the upcoming polls could see a formal seat-sharing arrangement. “There is a strong possibility of contesting the elections together,” Ranjit Debbarma told reporters, underscoring the pragmatic turn in Tipra Motha’s electoral strategy.
Highlighting the tactical nature of the talks, Ranjit clarified, “Our alliance discussions are specifically with BJP. While IPFT remains a partner in broader political collaboration, seat-sharing negotiations are focused solely on BJP. Senior leaders are actively involved, and we hope the final framework will be concluded in the next two days.”
Political analysts interpret this potential alliance as a move to consolidate tribal votes and counterbalance opposition forces in the TTAADC, positioning Tipra Motha and BJP as a formidable bloc ahead of the elections. Once talks are finalized, Pradyot is expected to call a meeting of all Tipra Motha leaders to formalize the strategy and rollout the election campaign.
The development marks a pivotal moment in Tripura’s tribal politics, where historical affiliations, emerging alliances, and strategic partnerships are set to redefine the electoral equation in the TTAADC region.
