Agartala, 19th March 2026 :   Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today announced Jawahar Chakraborty as its candidate for the upcoming by-election in the Dharmanagar Assmebly constituency.

A veteran party leader, Chakraborty has been associated with the BJP for many years and has remained active at the grassroots level. Notably, he had also contested from the same constituency as a BJP candidate in 2013.

Chakraborty comes from a politically prominent family. He is the son-in-law of late Rasik Ranjan Goswami, a senior BJP leader, and the husband of Barnali Goswami, former Chairperson of the State Women’s Commission and a BJP leader.

Over the years, Chakraborty has held several important responsibilities within the party at both district and state levels. Currently, he serves as the BJP’s North District President.

Speaking after his nomination, Chakraborty described the BJP as a highly disciplined organization that strictly follows its principles. “The party believes in ‘Nation first, then party, and finally the individual,’” he said.

Expressing confidence ahead of the by-election, Chakraborty stated that the BJP would secure a decisive victory, adding that opposition candidates would lose their deposits.

The Dharmanagar by-election is expected to witness keen political competition, with the BJP banking on Chakraborty’s experience and strong organizational background.
