Boxanagar BSF jawan laid to rest with state honours

Agartala, 21st March 2026:   The final rites of Boxanagar’s fallen BSF jawan, Wasim Mia, were conducted with full state honors amid an outpouring of grief and respect from the local community. Residents gathered in large numbers to bid farewell to the brave soldier who sacrificed his life in service to the nation.

The funeral ceremony was attended by MLA Tafajjal Hossain, Assistant Commandant Aman Yadav of the 49th Battalion Kamthana BOP, BSF personnel, and senior officials of the state administration. A Guard of Honour was presented to the martyr, and the atmosphere resonated with chants of “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and “Shaheed Wasim Mia Amar Rahe.”

At Putia High School ground, floral tributes were offered before the mortal remains were taken to his residence, where he was laid to rest according to Islamic traditions. Prior to burial, the BSF paid a ceremonial salute, and the national flag was handed over to his widow. The grief of family members, including his wife and two daughters, was palpable as the community shared in their sorrow.

According to officials, Wasim Mia had joined the 133rd Battalion in 2004 and was serving in Chhattisgarh at the time of his passing. He breathed his last at 11:05 p.m. on Thursday in a private hospital due to illness. On Saturday, coinciding with Eid-ul-Fitr, his body was brought from Agartala’s MBB Airport to Putia village in a massive bike rally, symbolizing the collective respect of the people.

This solemn farewell highlighted the deep sense of loss and pride felt across the region, as the community united to honor the memory of a soldier who gave his life in the line of duty.
