Agartala, 26th March 2026:   In an effort to ensure proper government revenue collection, authorities have taken strict measures against delinquent shop owners in the capital.

For years, a segment of opportunistic individuals in the state has habitually evaded paying government dues, hampering developmental initiatives.

The city task force recently visited shops from Orient Chowmuhani to Akhaura Road, giving owners who had not settled their overdue rents a strict 24-hour deadline to clear their dues.

On Wednesday, a total of 13 shops in Maharajganj market were sealed after the owners failed to pay their outstanding rent. Following the closure, some shopkeepers cleared their dues, and their shops were subsequently reopened.

The crackdown continues, with authorities warning that any shop owner along the Orient Chowmuhani–Akhaura Road stretch who fails to pay within 24 hours will face permanent closure on Friday morning.

The task force emphasized that this action aims to uphold law and order while ensuring government revenue is properly collected to support regional development.
