Agartala, 29th March 2026: A tragic incident occurred in Maheshpur, under the Sarala Gram Panchayat, when 45-year-old Bapan Nayek, an employee of the Kadamtala Electricity Sub-Division, drowned in his own pond.
Bapan Nayek worked as a lineman at the electricity department’s call center in the Ranibari area. On Saturday afternoon, around 4:30 PM, he went to take his routine bath in his backyard pond.When he did not return home for an extended period, his family grew concerned. Later in the evening, neighbors spotted him unconscious, floating in the pond. Local residents immediately rescued him and rushed him to the Kadam Tala Community Health Center.
Dr. Dipal Chakma, on duty at the health center, examined Nayek and declared him dead. His body was handed over to the family on Sunday following a post-mortem examination. Family members were inconsolable, mourning the sudden loss.
