Agartala, 30th March 2026:  A group of youths posing as members of an unnamed NGO were arrested by police last night in the Battala area of Agartala for allegedly creating chaos and harassing locals. It is reported that the accused were involved in disruptive and unruly behaviour, targeting young men and women in the area and causing panic among residents.

The situation escalated when the group allegedly attempted to obstruct police personnel from performing their duties. Following the incident, police intervened and arrested three individuals identified as Suman Dey, Hriday Malakar, and Surajit Deb. A juvenile was also found to be involved in the matter.

West Agartala Police Station OC Rana Chatterjee stated that the accused failed to provide any valid documents or legal proof to support their claim of being associated with any registered NGO. A case has been registered against them under multiple sections of the law, including charges of using criminal force, obstructing public servants, and creating public disturbance. Notably, one of the accused was seen physically assaulting a youth in public, an act that was captured on video.

Authorities have confirmed that the offences are serious in nature and may attract strict punishment, with some charges carrying a jail term of up to 10 years. The accused will be produced before the court today.

Meanwhile, police have continued their investigation and are interrogating the arrested individuals to understand their motive and verify the authenticity of their claims regarding NGO involvement. OC Rana Chatterjee assured that strict legal action will be taken in the matter.
