Agartala, 30th March 2026: A wave of panic has gripped the Shuddhachara area under the Teliamura Police Station following a violent confrontation last night that left a local laborer fighting for his life. The unrest reportedly began when villagers, including Dipal Das (45), a fisherman and daily wage earner attempted to protest against illegal business activities operating near a newly constructed bypass.
Locals and family members informed that the intervention was met with extreme hostility from a group led by Abhijit Das and Gobinda Das. The situation escalated rapidly when the accused, allegedly armed with sharp weapons, entered the village and launched a targeted assault.
During the gathering, Dipal Das was struck in the upper back with a machete, sustaining a deep gash that required nearly 15-20 stitches. Family members, including the victim’s brothers Nepal and Bapon Das, stated that the attackers, who are reportedly involved in the local transport business showed no restraint during the unprovoked strike.
Following the attack, the victim was rushed to the Teliamura Sub-divisional Hospital, but as his neurological condition worsened, he was urgently referred to the GBP Hospital in Agartala for advanced intervention.
Teliamura Police arrived shortly after the incident to restore order and have since initiated a formal investigation into the whereabouts of the accused. While the local administration has promised swift legal action, the locality remains on edge, with residents demanding a total crackdown on the “bypass syndicates” to prevent future bloodshed and ensure the safety of those who stand up against local crime.
