Villagers raise funds to repair neglected road at Dharmanagar

Agartala, 30th March 2026:  . Years of promises and political assurances have failed to bring relief to the residents of Baragol Gram Panchayat under Kadamtala block in Dharmanagar subdivision. Despite repeated appeals, their mud road was never paved nor even layered with bricks. During monsoon, knee-deep mud made daily movement nearly impossible, villagers complained.

Tired of waiting for administrative intervention, residents of Ward Nos. 1 and 2 took matters into their own hands. In a rare show of collective resolve, 26 families pooled Rs 24,000, hired a JCB machine and began repairing nearly 500 meters of road, six hands wide. Soil from both sides was cut and raised to make the stretch usable.

Ironically, both the Panchayat Samiti Chairman Mihir Ranjan Nath and current Gram Pradhan Pradip Nath reside in Ward No. 2, the very area worst affected. Villagers said they had hoped for change after the 2018 shift in government, but neither former Pradhan Hemanta Nath’s five-year tenure nor Pradip Nath’s two years in office brought any progress.

Local BJP SC Morcha leader Satyabrata Nama voiced frustration: “We have been pleading for years. Even though the Chairman and Pradhan live here, nothing was done. We had no choice but to repair the road ourselves. With our limited funds, we cannot make it concrete, but at least it is now passable.”

Residents further alleged that neglect may be linked to community bias, claiming that since the Panchayat leadership belongs to the Nath community, the Namah-majority wards were deliberately overlooked.

This grassroots initiative stands as a stark reminder of administrative apathy, and of how ordinary villagers, when pushed to the brink, can mobilize to solve their own problems.
