Agartala, 30th March 2026:  Unakoti district witnessed a incident late last night when suspected cattle thieves met with an accident while fleeing with stolen livestock. The case has sparked outrage among residents of Kailashahar’s Hamidpur village.

According to local sources, the incident took place around 2 am in Ward No. 5 of Dhaliarkandi Gram Panchayat under Irani police station. The suspects were speeding away in a Maruti Alto bearing registration number TR05G-0387 when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn off the road.

Alarmed by the crash, villagers rushed to the spot and found two cows trapped inside the overturned car. No individuals were found at the scene, as the alleged thieves reportedly escaped under cover of darkness. The residents later rescued the cattle and took them into safe custody.

Villagers claim the same vehicle has been linked to multiple cattle thefts in the area, fueling fear and anger among locals. Police from Irani station reached the site during the night and returned Monday morning to conduct a detailed investigation, gathering statements from residents.

Local members have demanded swift arrests and strict legal action against the culprits to prevent further incidents of cattle theft in the region.
