Agartala, 30th March 2026: With the Dharmanagar Assembly by-election drawing closer, Tripura’s political atmosphere has become increasingly charged. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has stepped up its campaign efforts, mobilizing ministers, legislators, party leaders, and grassroots workers to secure victory for its candidate, Johar Chakraborty.
Today, a major outreach drive was conducted across Dharmanagar town and adjoining areas in support of Chakraborty. The campaign was led by Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumdar, who personally visited households, interacted with residents, and appealed for votes.
Joining him in the campaign were Barnali Goswami, former Chairperson of the Tripura State Women’s Commission and wife of Jahar Chakraborty; former Kisan Morcha leader Biswajit Deb; and other district and local BJP leaders.
Speaking to the media personnel during the campaign, Mayor Majumdar praised Chakraborty as “a gentleman widely respected in Dharmanagar” and highlighted his long-standing role as a dedicated BJP worker. Chakraborty currently serves as the district BJP’s vice-president.
Majumdar expressed confidence in the party’s candidate, stating that the BJP has full faith in Chakraborty and expects him to win by a significant margin. He dismissed the opposition’s efforts, asserting that Dharmanagar voters would once again ensure the BJP’s victory, symbolized by the lotus.
