Teen Drowns While Bathing in River Near Pilgrimage Site in Tripura

Agartala, 5th April 2026:  A tragic incident claimed the life of a 15-year-old boy, Shubham Das, who drowned while bathing in a river near the Mahamuni Buddhist Temple on Sunday afternoon.

According to reports, Shubham, the son of Bimal Das and a resident of Ganjartila, had gone on a bicycle trip with a friend to visit the temple. After offering prayers, the two boys decided to take a bath in the nearby river.

During the bath, Shubham suddenly slipped into deeper waters and drowned. His friend raised an alarm, drawing the attention of locals and creating panic in the area.

The Santirbazar Fire and Emergency Services was immediately informed. Fire personnel rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. After an extensive search, they recovered Shubham from the river in an unconscious state. He was quickly taken to Santirbazar District Hospital, where attending doctors declared him dead after examination.

What began as a simple outing turned into a heartbreaking tragedy for the family. The untimely death has cast a pall of gloom over Ganjartila and the entire Santirbazar area. Police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
