Agartala, 5th April 2026: In a major anti-drug operation, Tripura police seized around 50 kg of dried cannabis from a passenger bus traveling from Bilonia to Agartala. Two women from Bihar have been arrested in connection with the case.
According to police sources, on Sunday, a naka checking was carried out in front of Gorji Police Station by a team led by OC Tapan Das. During the operation, a passenger bus was stopped for inspection. A detailed search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a large quantity of dried cannabis.
The two women, found carrying the contraband, were working as laborers at Chiomara brick kiln in the Bilonia area of South Tripura. Preliminary investigation indicates that they intended to return to Bihar via Agartala railway station and were allegedly attempting to smuggle the drugs out of the state.
Radha Kishorepur Police Station OC Sanjeev Laskar stated that the estimated market value of the recovered ganja is approximately Rs 3 lakh. A formal case has been registered, and further legal proceedings are underway against the arrested women.
