Agartala, 9th April 2026: Authorities in North Tripura have announced special restrictions in two constituencies ahead of the upcoming elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC). Voting in the 1-Damchhara-Jampui (ST) and 3-Dasda-Kanchanpur constituencies will take place on April 12, 2026, between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.
To maintain peace and harmony, the District Magistrate has invoked Section 163 of the Indian Citizen Security Code, 2023, imposing prohibitory measures from April 10, 4 p.m. to April 13, 6 a.m.
The District Magistrate has prohibited gatherings of five or more people carrying weapons, sticks, iron rods, bombs, or stones. Meetings, rallies, or assemblies — whether using loudspeakers or not — are banned within 200 meters of any polling station. In addition, two or more motorcycles, scooters, or cars are not allowed to move together in these constituencies during the restricted period.
However, the order does not apply to police, CAPF personnel, election officials, or vehicles engaged in election duty. Accredited media representatives with valid Election Commission passes are exempt, as are voters with Election Commission identity cards, whether on foot or using personal vehicles within 200 meters of polling stations. Government officials, armed forces on duty, and regular passenger vehicles are also excluded, provided they are not used to transport voters.
Religious gatherings for prayers and social functions such as weddings or birthdays are permitted, as long as no gifts or money are distributed. Market activities, routine business, and vehicles with permits issued by returning officers are exempt, along with wheelchairs used by differently-abled voters.
The District Magistrate has warned that legal action will be taken against violators of these restrictions.
