TTAADC Polls Marked by Isolated Incidents Amid 65% Turnout Till 1 PM; South District Leads Voting

Date:

Agartala, 12th April 2026: The Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections on Sunday recorded an estimated 65% voter turnout by 1 PM, even as sporadic incidents of unrest were reported from different parts of the state.

South Tripura emerged as the highest-voting district with 69% turnout, while polling continued across all districts under tight security.

According to Tripura State Election Commission (SEC) Secretary Anurag Sen, the election process remained largely under control despite a few scattered disturbances. He said no major violence had been reported and that most issues were quickly contained by police and administrative teams on the ground.

Officials confirmed that polling stations functioned smoothly overall, with no significant technical disruptions in EVM operations. Any issues identified during the mock polling phase in the morning were promptly resolved, and replacement of machines was carried out wherever necessary.

However, police sources reported several incident-related disruptions during the day. In Sepahijala district’s Boxanagar area, miscreants allegedly hurled seven crude handmade bombs, prompting security personnel to fire five rounds of blank shots to disperse the crowd and restore order.

In separate incidents, tensions were also reported from other parts of the state, including the vandalism of a vehicle linked to a political candidate. Authorities further noted that one person sustained injuries in a related clash and later died.

Despite these flashpoints, officials maintained that the overall polling environment remained under control, with security forces deployed across sensitive areas to prevent escalation and ensure smooth voting.
