Agartala, 13th April 2026: Allegations have surfaced from voters in the Brindaban Ghat area of Khowai that more than two hundred eligible voters were unable to cast their ballots during yesterday’s TTAADC elections due to alleged administrative and security failures.
According to residents of Hazaripara under Constituency No. 10 Kulaichampahaor, voters assigned to Booth Nos. 17 and 18 claimed they were prevented from exercising their franchise. They stated that many of these voters had originally relocated to the Brindaban Ghat area following the 1997 ethnic violence, though their names remain on the voter list of their earlier location.
On election day, around 10 a.m., the affected voters reportedly went to Hazaripara polling stations in Khowai to cast their votes. However, they alleged that a group of unruly youths and women from the area obstructed them, issuing threats and intimidation, which forced them to leave the polling station without voting.
The voters further claimed that despite approaching the police for assistance, adequate security was not provided to ensure their safe participation in the electoral process. Eventually, they were compelled to abandon their attempt to vote due to continued intimidation.
The incident has raised questions among local residents and observers regarding the smooth conduct of the ADC elections. Concerns have been expressed over whether the electoral process was conducted fairly and whether law enforcement agencies fulfilled their responsibilities in ensuring voter safety.
The affected voters have questioned the role of both the police administration and the election authorities, asking how eligible citizens could be denied their constitutional right to vote despite being on the official electoral roll. They have also criticized what they described as a lack of effective action from security forces present at the polling stations.
The allegations have sparked broader debate in the region over electoral security arrangements and the effectiveness of administrative oversight during the ADC elections.
