Third general election to tribal Village Committees scheduled for May 2026

Date:

Agartala, 25th April 2026 :   The Government of Tripura has formally initiated the delimitation process for Village Committees under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) ahead of the forthcoming General Elections scheduled for May 2026.

According to an official memorandum issued by the Tribal Welfare Department, the delimitation exercise will not alter constituency boundaries but will focus on the rotation of reservation for women’s seats. As per the decision of the Executive Committee of TTAADC, reservations will now shift from even-numbered seats to odd-numbered seats, beginning from the descending order, to ensure wider coverage of previously uncovered positions.

The Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) have been designated as the prescribed authorities to oversee the process. Notifications will be issued in draft form, inviting claims and objections from the public. The draft publication of the delimitation notification will be issued on April 28, 2026. Claims and objections, if any, may be submitted up to May 5, 2026. These will be disposed of by the Sub-Divisional Magistrates by May 7, 2026, and the final publication of the delimitation will take place on May 8, 2026.

Officials clarified that the delimitation will be conducted under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Village Committee (Delimitation of Constituencies) Rules, 1994, as amended in 2015. Records including maps, population data, and working sheets will be preserved for legal and administrative purposes.

The forthcoming election will be treated as the third General Election to the Village Committees. While constituency limits remain unchanged, the rotation of women’s reservation marks a significant procedural update in the democratic functioning of the autonomous tribal governance system.
