Agartala, 5th May 2026: Former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Tuesday sharply criticized the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), claiming that the party is “finished” and no longer politically relevant.
Speaking in Agartala after visiting the Tripura Sundari Temple, Deb—who is currently serving as a co-in-charge for the West Bengal Assembly elections—alleged that the TMC is in decline. He also took aim at Abhishek Banerjee, accusing him of behaving irrationally and contributing to the party’s weakening position.
Deb mentioned that re-polling in Falta is scheduled for May 21 after earlier voting was disrupted. He suggested that such incidents reflect poorly on the party’s leadership.
Reaffirming his loyalty to the central leadership, Deb said he remains committed to fulfilling any responsibility assigned to him by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
When asked about the next Chief Minister of West Bengal, he stated that the decision would be made by the party leadership, noting that the election process has only recently concluded.
Deb also criticized the governance of Mamata Banerjee and her party, alleging that despite expectations of development after the Left Front era, little progress was made for the public. He claimed that dissatisfaction among voters, particularly women, led to increased support for the BJP.
Overall, Deb portrayed the TMC as losing public trust and suggested that political change in West Bengal reflects growing frustration with its leadership.
