Agartala, 6th May 2026: The newly constructed 50-bed civil hospital near Jackson Gate in Agartala is expected to be opened to the public shortly, as construction work has reached its final stage, according to Mayor Dipak Majumdar.
Following an on-site inspection, the Mayor assured reporters that the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) is making every effort to make the facility operational at the earliest.
“We are committed to opening this hospital for public service very soon,” he stated. The upcoming healthcare facility is designed to significantly reduce pressure on the city’s major hospitals, including GBP Hospital and IGM Hospital, by providing expanded medical support and services.
Planned as a modern urban health centre, the hospital will feature multiple specialist outpatient departments (OPDs), a minor operation theatre for small surgical procedures, and extended operating hours from 8 AM to 8 PM. The facility is also equipped with modern infrastructure, including lifts and patient-friendly amenities.
Developed on the model of successful municipal hospitals in cities like Mumbai, the project will be directly managed by the Agartala Municipal Corporation. Officials say it is part of a broader initiative by the state government to strengthen urban healthcare infrastructure.
During the inspection visit, the Mayor was accompanied by local corporator Ratna Dutta, AMC Additional Commissioner Mihir Ghosh, and senior hospital officials, who briefed him on the final preparations ahead of the hospital’s launch.
