Clash at Bamutia BMS office, auto driver injured

Date:

Agartala, 9th May 2026 :  Tension flared once again at Bamutia after a violent clash between two factions of the Bamutia Auto Rickshaw Block unit of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS). The dispute, reportedly over vehicle line numbers, left one auto driver injured and led to the office being locked by protesting workers.

Locals said that the altercation began when auto driver Sudipta Das allegedly attacked fellow driver Pranab Banik during an argument over line numbers. Banik sustained bleeding injuries and was rushed to a local hospital by residents.

The incident is believed to be linked to ongoing disputes over committee formation within the union. In protest against the assault, other auto drivers locked the Bamutia BMS office, sparking widespread commotion in the area.

Following the clash, heavy security was deployed at Kali Bazar to prevent further escalation. However, when contacted, Bamutia Outpost Officer-in-Charge Pritam Chakma declined to comment on the matter.

Pranab Banik, speaking to the media, detailed the attack and reiterated that the violence was premeditated. The incident has once again highlighted the simmering tensions within Bamutia’s auto rickshaw union, which has witnessed repeated violent confrontations in recent weeks.
