Agartala, 10th May 2026 : The All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists (AIOCD) has called for a nationwide strike on May 20, with medicine traders across the country set to participate. Tripura too will be affected, as the All Tripura Chemist and Druggist Association has announced that nearly 3,500 medical shops across the state will remain closed on that day.
According to the association, the strike has been called to protest against the unregulated operations of online pharmacies and the deep discount policies adopted by corporate chains. Traders allege that medicines are being sold online without following proper regulations, causing financial losses to small and medium retailers and posing risks to public health.
Leaders of the All Tripura Chemist and Druggist Association stated that most retail and wholesale medicine traders in the state have extended support to the strike. As a result, residents may face difficulties in procuring medicines on May 20.
The organisation emphasized that medicines are not ordinary commodities but directly linked to human life and health. They urged the central government to impose strict regulations on online pharmacies and to safeguard the interests of small and medium-scale traders through immediate intervention.
