Agartala, 10th May 2026 : Residents of Navinchhara Depachara have expressed strong resentment against Tripura Minister and MLA Santana Chakma over the alleged failure to fulfill promises related to temple construction and financial assistance in the area.
According to local residents, before the 2018 Assembly elections, Santana Chakma had assured the people that a new temple building would be constructed and financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh would be provided for the temple. However, locals alleged that even after nearly eight years, neither the promised grant nor the completion of the temple construction has materialised.
Residents claimed that the temple remains in a half-finished condition and continues to face several difficulties, particularly during the rainy season. They alleged that despite repeated assurances before the elections, no visible initiative has been taken to complete the work.
Locals further alleged that politics was being played over religious places and expressed disappointment over the prolonged delay. According to them, several attempts were made to contact the minister’s office regarding the issue, but they did not receive any satisfactory response.
As frustration mounted, residents came before the media demanding immediate steps for completion of the temple construction and release of the promised financial assistance.
“We do not want politics over religious places. If a public representative makes a promise, it should be fulfilled. Eight years is a long time,” a section of the residents said while voicing their anger.
The people of Navinchhara Depachara have also raised questions regarding the role of the administration in the matter and urged authorities to intervene at the earliest.
Meanwhile, no official response has yet been received from Minister Santana Chakma regarding the allegations. Efforts are reportedly being made to contact her for her statement, which is expected to be published once available.
