Amtali police debunk kidnapping allegation, reveal businessman’s flight to Kolkata

Date:

Agartala, 10th May 2026 :   The alleged abduction of a hotel businessman from Hapania has been proven false, Amtali Police confirmed after investigation. Authorities revealed that the man had voluntarily left home and travelled outside the city, dispelling claims of kidnapping.

Police sources informed that the hotel owner Sushanta Deb alias Binoy went missing the evening of May 08 last after leaving for Agartala. His sudden disappearance triggered panic in the locality. That night, his wife lodged a missing diary at Amtali Police Station, while relatives accused three local men Debashish Kar, Nilay Singh, and Pritam Roy of abducting him due to prior enmity.

Yesterday morning, family members staged a protest outside the West Tripura Superintendent of Police’s office, demanding his rescue and the arrest of the accused. Later, they reiterated their demands at Amtali Police Station.

Under the leadership of OC Paritosh Das, police examined CCTV footage across the city and tracked Deb’s mobile location. Investigations revealed that Deb had travelled on his scooter bearing registration TR01AB-4794 through various areas before entering MBB Airport, from where he boarded an Indigo flight to Kolkata at 8:25 p.m. on May 08 last. He returned to Agartala the following evening at 6:10 p.m.

Based on these findings, police confirmed that no abduction had taken place. Instead, Deb had left home of his own accord and travelled by air. Preliminary assessment suggests the kidnapping allegation was fabricated to falsely implicate certain individuals.

At 10 pm yesterday, OC Paritosh Das formally disclosed the findings, adding that the investigation is ongoing. He stated that if evidence proves deliberate misleading of police and filing of false complaints, legal action will follow.

The revelation has stirred widespread reaction in the locality, with residents commending the police for their swift and transparent investigation.
