Special discussion on senior citizens’ welfare held in Dhalai

Date:

Agartala, 15th May 2026:   A special discussion meeting focusing on the welfare and protection of senior citizens was organized on Friday at Ambassa Town Hall under the initiative of the Dhalai District Social Welfare and Social Education Department. The program highlighted the importance of “Filial Duty” — the moral and legal responsibility of children towards their elderly parents — and addressed issues related to the wellbeing of senior citizens.

The event was formally inaugurated with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Hemali Debbarma, Chairperson of Ambassa Panchayat Samiti. Among the guests were Shankha Shubhra Sen, Officer of the District Social Welfare and Social Education Department, and Kajal Kalai, Acting CDPO of Ambassa Sub-Division, along with other officials.

The central theme of the discussion was “Filial Duty and Senior Citizen’s Wellbeing.” Speakers emphasized that with changing social dynamics, many elderly individuals face loneliness and neglect. They stressed the need to ensure respect, proper healthcare, and safe housing for senior citizens as part of society’s collective responsibility. Officials also elaborated on various government welfare schemes and legal rights available to senior citizens.

Students from different schools also attended, adding to the significance of the event by engaging the younger generation in discussions on social responsibility.
