Agartala, 25th May 2026: The Tripura Police has arrested four police personnel, including an Inspector, in connection with the alleged tampering of narcotics seized at Teliamura Police Station in Tripura’s Khowai district.
According to a statement of Tripura Police, the arrests were carried out on the instructions of DGP Tripura, Anurag, after the registration of Teliamura Police Station Case No. 025/2026 on May 24, 2026. The case has been filed under Sections 305, 306, 316(5), and 61 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 21(c) and 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985.
Police identified the accused as Inspector Ajit Debbarma, Sub-Inspector Rajendra Reang, Woman Sub-Inspector Sampa Das — all posted at Teliamura Police Station — and ASI Sachindra Debbarma of the SB Organisation, Khowai. As per police sources, the incident occurred on the night of May 20–21, 2026. During a mobile patrol operation, personnel from Teliamura Police Station intercepted a white Maruti Eeco vehicle and seized a consignment of codeine-based Eskuf cough syrup. The seizure formalities were reportedly conducted at the police station.
However, during a later review of CCTV footage from the police station, investigators allegedly found that a portion of the seized contraband had been removed from the GD Room before the official seizure documentation was completed. Preliminary findings suggest that nearly 245 bottles of 100 ml Eskuf cough syrup — classified as a commercial quantity under the NDPS Act — were allegedly taken away and concealed by the accused personnel. Investigators also alleged that the seizure officer did not properly record the entire recovered consignment in the official documents.
The complaint in the case was filed by Justin Joseph, while the investigation is being led by Inspector Jayanta Kumar Dey, Officer-in-Charge of Teliamura Police Station.Police sources confirmed that all four accused officers have been placed under suspension. They were arrested and are scheduled to be produced before the competent court on Monday.Officials stated that an impartial investigation into the case is currently in progress.
