Agartala, 28th May 2026: Local residents of West Charakbai Mog Para in Baikhora staged a road blockade on Thursday, demanding urgent restoration of electricity services in their area. The protest took place on the road connecting Baikhora to Muhuripur, causing significant disruption on the public holiday of Eid.
Local sources informed that, electricity supply in Mog Para has been plagued by persistent transformer issues for several years. The situation worsened this week, with the entire locality left without power for the past three days. Residents allege that despite repeated complaints to the electricity department, no permanent solution has been implemented.
Protesters accused the department of blaming irregular bill payments by some residents for the service breakdown. However, locals countered that many consumers pay their bills regularly yet continue to suffer. They demanded that the department take targeted action against defaulters instead of penalizing the entire community.
The demonstrators’ primary demands include the immediate installation of a new transformer and restoration of normal electricity services. The crisis has also triggered a shortage of drinking water, prompting local women to join the protest and raise demands for water supply alongside electricity.
Despite the blockade continuing for hours, residents reported that no administrative officials visited the site. The people of Mog Para now await concrete steps from the authorities to resolve the long-standing issue.
