Agartala, 28th May 2026: In a significant step towards protecting vulnerable children from exploitation, a child rescue operation was successfully carried out by the Child Helpline (CHL) and District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), West Tripura, in association with emergency police personnel on May 27.
According to official sources from the District Magistrate and Collector of West Tripura, the operation was conducted in the North Gate to Radhanagar area after information was received regarding a child allegedly being used for begging. During the drive, the rescue team traced the child along with his mother near the North Gate traffic point.
Officials stated that emergency police personnel were immediately informed and deployed to ensure the safety and security of the operation. Despite facing several challenging situations during the rescue process, the team successfully detained the child’s mother and rescued the minor child from the spot.
As per established child protection protocols, the rescued child was shifted to the Open Shelter at Melarmath for immediate care, protection, and counselling. The child is scheduled to be produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) on the next working day for further rehabilitation, restoration, and future welfare measures.
The District Administration reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the rights, dignity, and future of every child. Officials further emphasized that strict vigilance and coordinated rescue operations will continue against child exploitation, begging rackets, and related offences in the district.
