Bicycle thief nabbed by locals at Muhuripur

Date:

Agartala, 29th May 2026:  Incidents of theft continue to plague Santirbazar subdivision, with local residents increasingly frustrated at what they describe as police inaction. From bicycles and motorbikes to gas cylinders and even livestock, thieves have been targeting households with alarming frequency.

On Friday morning, a fresh case was reported from Muhuripur Mathula Sardar Para under Baikhora police station. A bicycle belonging to Sanjay Kar was stolen. Upon learning of the incident, residents banded together and tracked the stolen cycle to Ratanpur area, where they also apprehended the alleged thief. Reports suggest the bicycle had already been taken to Ratanpur for sale.

The stolen cycle was recovered and the accused was brought back by locals. Speaking to the press, owner Sanjay Kar confirmed the recovery and said discussions were underway with the youth’s parents to hand him over. Residents stressed that repeated thefts have forced them to take matters into their own hands, urging authorities to act decisively and ensure proper punishment for those involved.

This incident highlights a growing trend of community-led action as public trust in law enforcement wanes.
