Agartala, 29th May 2026: Tripura’s cultural fraternity is celebrating a proud moment as young flautist Kunal Choudhury from Kailashahar has been selected as a Junior Scholar in the Hindustani Classical Flute division of the prestigious ITC Sangeet Research Academy (ITC SRA).
Kunal achieved this distinction through an audition held on May 11, 2026, where legendary maestros including Pandit Ajay Chakraborty, Pandit Uday Bhawalkar, and Suresh Talwalkar served as judges.
Expressing joy and gratitude, Kunal said it was a matter of immense pride to be the first classical flautist from Tripura to join ITC SRA as a Junior Scholar. “This achievement is not just personal but a recognition for Tripura’s cultural heritage,” he remarked.
Kunal’s musical journey began in childhood under Surajit Chakraborty, followed by eleven years of tabla training with Prallad Saha under the CCRT scholarship. For the past fifteen years, he has devoted himself to the discipline of Hindustani classical flute, currently pursuing advanced training under world-renowned flautist Guru Parmananda Roy.
His dedication has already earned him accolades such as the International Icon Award 2025 and the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Global Icon Award 2025. He has performed across Tripura, Kolkata, and beyond, winning acclaim on major classical music stages.
The only son of Krishnendu Choudhury and Champa Choudhury, Kunal’s success has sparked joy among his family, well-wishers, and the wider cultural community of Tripura.
