Agartala, 30th May 2026: A shocking incident involving an alleged brick attack on a moving vehicle has raised concerns over safety on National Highway 8 in Tripura. The incident took place on Friday night near Bajrabari, close to the Gorji Outpost police station.
According to reports, prominent Bilonia businessman Narayan Sur was returning home with his wife after bringing her back from medical treatment in Chennai. After landing at Agartala Airport, the couple set off for Bilonia in their private vehicle, which Sur was driving himself.
At around 9:00 p.m., when the vehicle reached the Bajrabari area, approximately 500 meters from the Gorji Outpost police station, a group of unidentified miscreants allegedly hurled bricks at the moving car. The impact damaged the front portion of the vehicle and shattered parts of the windshield.
Despite the sudden attack, Sur managed to keep control of the vehicle and avoided a potentially serious accident through his presence of mind. Instead of stopping at the spot, he drove directly to the Gorji Outpost and reported the incident to the police. He later filed a written complaint.
Following the incident, Sur expressed concern over the safety and security of commuters on National Highway 8. The attack has also triggered anxiety among local residents, who have demanded stronger police measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Police have registered the complaint and launched an investigation to identify those responsible and determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns about highway security and the need for increased vigilance along key transportation routes in the state.
